We use specialist, industry-standard software to produce accurate stock results based on opening and closing inventory, purchases, and revenue. This is the only way to truly understand your operating GP - calculating gross profit based on cost and selling prices alone does not account for hidden stock losses!
After reviewing the headline KPIs (GP, yield, surplus/deficit, stockholding etc.), we will analyse individual losses and gains, product by product, with management teams, and set action points designed to eliminate any deficit.
We will review recorded allowances (wastage, management entertaining, promotions etc.) and assess their impact on the profitability of the business. We will also advise on procurement strategies, pricing, controls at point of service, and any other operational factors influencing the result.
Our final report, with a full breakdown in narrative form, will be sent to key stakeholders and includes reams of valuable data - from GP by product to sales mix, best sellers, and much more.
We will carry out this process periodically (typically monthly), and continue to drive improvement and sustain gains. Before long, we'll feel like an invaluable and integral extension of your team - and we're happy to answer queries or offer advice between visits.
We can provide an accurate valuation of stock on hand upon request - a service most widely used by those buying or selling a hospitality business as a going concern. Just before the sale is finalised, we will take stock and provide a valuation certificate to ensure the purchaser and vendor can agree a fair sale price. Regardless of which party employs us, we will highlight issues and recommend solutions - e.g. a reduced price for short-dated kegs.
Our compliance audits cover all major requirements of licensing authorities and other important aspects to keep your teams and customers safe. Areas covered include licensing and trading standards, health and safety, food hygiene, and security, with scoring being weighted more heavily towards areas considered business-critical. These audits are fully customisable; we will work with you to build venue-specific reports and keep you operating safely and legally.
We are experienced in senior hospitality roles that demanded more than just profit management; there was a responsibility to uphold standards in all areas - particularly the customer experience.
Our brand standards audits are custom-built to align with your ethos and expectations. We’ll suggest some starting points based around presentation, cleanliness, service, quality, marketing, and back-of-house, then build a structured evaluation of how well your site is adhering to your core values and daily requirements - with scoring weighted towards the areas you value most highly.
If our stock auditing is profit-focused, our brand standards work is all about driving sales. Together, we will design audits that could be the difference between customers staying for one drink or spending their entire evening with you.
At Uplift, we strongly encourage managers to use our insights to develop their teams. Profit can be lost at the point of service - it's the team making drinks and preparing food who will benefit most from refining their processes and gaining a basic understanding of stock value and the consequences of stock loss.
To support this development, we run training sessions that will enlighten your teams and improve controls. In our experience, malpractice is rare - deficits are usually driven by a simple lack of understanding of the importance of good controls, and little appreciation of the value of the stock in play.
The analogy we use is cash: if a safe with a £500 float is a tenner down, action is taken - but a stock inventory worth £15k doesn't get anything like the same attention, with expensive draught beer literally being poured down the drain every night.
We'll coach your teams through the basics, with delivery and content tailored to their role. Would your bar team benefit from learning some simple steps to reduce waste and optimise service? We've got you covered. Would your supervisors or managers benefit from a greater understanding of gross profit, yield, purchasing negotiation tactics, etc.? Give Uplift a shout.
Our fees are time-based, with a full-day visit charged at £300 + VAT.
Time spent is influenced mainly by the size of inventory and operational complexities (high rotation of guest products, intricate pricing structures, etc.). We will visit and assess your business to provide a no-obligation quote.
Smaller sites will qualify for part-day rates depending on services required.
Time spent (and result accuracy) is dependant on the prompt and organised provision of data (invoices, revenue, PLU reports, etc.), and on-site support and cooperation. All of these requirements will be discussed in detail before the first planned visit.
We pride ourselves on providing significant return on investment. If our guidance is followed, your profit uptake will far outweigh our fee.
